Electronic Resumes

Because of the volume of resumes and the need to select a suitable candidate for a position, employers of middle to large companies rely more and more on electronic résumés. With a database of resumes, the process for selecting a suitable candidate becomes much easier. It saves time and money. Electronic filing allows key word searches, quick delivery, and can be easily routed to requesting departments.

Once the resume is in the database, employers can search by key-word or phrase--matching the skills, education, and experience required for the job.

Electronic resumes, their storage, and file transfer is common. Some companies scan resumes, using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, however, the majority are coming to rely on electronic resumes (text files and MSWord .doc files).

Some Helpful Hints for Electronic Resumes:

• Use terms, jargon, and familiar industry acronyms for relevant skills.

• In formatting your resume, highlight areas of specialization with asterisks (*) and use CAPITAL LETTERS instead of underlining.

• Electronic resumes can be more than one page (2-3).
